ascending melody

Every morning I wake up with a completely random song stuck in my head. It's not necessarily something I'd been listening to recently or a song I'd thought of in years. This is a list of those songs.

Imagine Dragons - “Radioactive”

I must have heard this song on the radio or something, because when I woke up with it stuck in my head I had no idea who it was and had to google the lyrics. I hate this song.

Google isn’t capitalized when used as a verb, right?

Spice Girls - “Wannabe”

We had a nice long stretch of good songs there for a few weeks. I won’t go so far as to say this is a bad song, but it’s not one I like having stuck in my head.

Hackensaw Boys - “Box of Pine”

I’ve had my share of women, had more than my share of wine.

R. Kelly - “Ignition” (Remix)

I’m heading to Japan at the end of the week, so I’ve queued up the next fifteen or so posts with songs from the backlog. Be good while I’m gone.

Girl I’m feelin’ whatchu feelin’, no more hopin’ and wishin’, I’m about to take my key and stick it in the ignition.

The Decemberists - “Sons and Daughters”

Sometimes I think we’re all pilgrims of a sort, trying to escape the horror, fear, guilt, and shame of our own existences by struggling abroad to new lands of love, acceptance, safety, or absolution. Or just actual new lands. This song captures that feeling perfectly. It’s easy to forget that it’s in all of our power to make our own lives better.

Here all the bombs fade away.

Björk - “Big Time Sensuality”

We just met—and I know I’m a bit too intimate—but something is coming up and we’re both included.

Owls - “Everyone Is My Friend”

It’s not impossible to think of you thinking of me.

Adem - “Launch Yourself”

You left me stranded while you broke through to other worlds.

The Magnetic Fields - “I Don’t Want to Get Over You”

I guess I could take a sleeping pill and sleep at will and not have to go through what I go through.

Madvillain - “Great Day” (Four Tet remix)

This one he wrote in cold blood with a toothpick / On second thought, it’s too thick / His assistant said, “DOOM, you sick” / He said, “True,” through acoustics.
